2026-07: Playable in your browser

  • Universum is now playable in the browser at play.brackett.dev. No download, no install.
  • Added an in-game tutorial with four guided levels that teach movement, mana, abilities, and cards before you queue for a real match.
  • You can practice against bots at easy or harder settings while we tune the game.
  • Launched a public designer wiki so you can read up on every piece, ability, card, and system.
  • Big legibility pass on the board: clearer tiles, targeting shapes, and combat feedback so you can see exactly what hit what and why.
  • Sharpened the four mana colors and how their pieces play, plus fixes to stealth, line of sight, links, and terrain that were causing confusing outcomes.
  • Reworked a few abilities and pieces for balance, including renaming one to "Return to Dust."
  • Bug and stability fixes across matches so games run smoothly start to finish.

2026-06-12: The server goes live

  • Game server deployed and reachable over the internet.
  • Full engine feature set: abilities, cards, augments, auras, links, stealth, corpses, hazards, duration effects, redirects, and win conditions.
  • First content batch: 9 augments, 12 cards, 15 pieces.
  • Automated bot matches running end-to-end for testing and balance.
